Ukraine — Transport & Getting Around

Ukrainian airspace closed to civilian traffic on 24 February 2022 and remains shut; entry is overland via Poland (Medyka, Korczowa, Krakivets, Shehyni), Slovakia, Hungary, Romania or Moldova. Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) runs the Kyiv Express and other cross-border sleepers from Przemyśl and Chełm in Poland, plus overnight trains Kyiv-Lviv-Odesa. Long-distance buses (FlixBus, Autolux) operate but stop for the nationwide curfew, typically 00:00-05:00 and stricter in frontline oblasts.

In Kyiv the metro is a flat UAH 8 and doubles as an air-raid shelter. Bolt and Uklon dominate ride-hailing; Uber withdrew from Ukraine in 2022. Fuel shortages and rolling blackouts occasionally strand drivers, so keep a taxi buffer.
