Ukraine — Currency & Money

Currency is the Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH). The National Bank pegged the official rate at UAH 36.57 per USD in July 2022, then moved to managed flexibility in October 2023; the market rate has since drifted past UAH 41. Contactless card, Apple Pay and Google Pay work in Kyiv and Lviv shops, taxis and metro turnstiles, but blackouts routinely knock terminals and ATMs offline - carry a few days of cash in mixed UAH, USD and EUR.

ATMs (PrivatBank, Monobank, Oschadbank, Raiffeisen) are widespread in cities, but daily withdrawal caps apply to non-resident cards and some restrict UAH cash-out during wartime foreign-exchange controls. Tipping is 10% in restaurants; app-hailed taxi fares are fixed and untipped.
