Our Commitment

World Adult Guide is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. We believe the safety-critical information on this site should be available to everyone, and we actively work to remove barriers that might prevent any person from accessing our content.

Information about legal frameworks, health resources, safety guidance, and emergency contacts should never be inaccessible due to a disability. We treat accessibility as a core requirement, not an afterthought.

WCAG Compliance

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard. This is the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility, and it covers a wide range of recommendations for making web content more accessible to people with disabilities including blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity, and cognitive limitations.

Our ongoing compliance efforts include:

• Regular automated accessibility audits using industry-standard tools
• Manual testing with screen readers and keyboard-only navigation
• Periodic review by users who rely on assistive technology
• Addressing newly identified accessibility issues as part of each quarterly content review

Screen Reader Compatibility

We design and develop our pages with screen reader compatibility as a priority:

• Semantic HTML — We use proper heading hierarchy (h1 through h6), landmark elements (nav, main, article, aside), and semantic markup throughout the site to ensure screen readers can parse and present content correctly.
• ARIA labels — Where native HTML semantics are insufficient, we use ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes to provide additional context for assistive technologies.
• Alt text — All informational images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked as presentational so screen readers skip them.
• Link context — Links are written to be meaningful out of context. We avoid generic link text like "click here" or "read more" in favor of descriptive link text that makes sense when read in isolation.
• Form labels — All form inputs have associated labels, and form error messages are programmatically linked to the relevant fields.

Keyboard Navigation

Every feature and piece of content on this site is accessible using only a keyboard:

• All interactive elements (links, buttons, form controls) are reachable via the Tab key
• Focus indicators are visible on all interactive elements so keyboard users can always see where they are on the page
• The tab order follows a logical, predictable sequence that matches the visual layout
• Dropdown menus and navigation elements can be operated with arrow keys and the Escape key
• No interaction requires a mouse, trackpad, or touch input
• Skip-to-content links are available to bypass repeated navigation elements

Motion and Animation

• We respect the prefers-reduced-motion operating system setting. Users who have indicated a preference for reduced motion will not see animations or transitions.
• No content relies on animation to convey information — animations are purely decorative enhancements.
• There is no auto-playing media content on any page.

Color Contrast and Visual Design

Our visual design prioritizes readability and clarity:

• Contrast ratios — Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and UI components).
• Color is not the sole indicator — We do not use color as the only means of conveying information. Status indicators, warnings, and interactive states use multiple cues (icons, text labels, patterns) in addition to color.
• Dark theme — Our default dark theme is designed with accessibility in mind, providing comfortable reading in low-light environments while maintaining adequate contrast ratios.

Font Sizing and Readability

• Responsive text — All text scales appropriately when users zoom in or increase their browser's default font size, up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
• Readable typefaces — We use clean, widely-available typefaces optimized for screen reading.
• Line spacing — Body text uses generous line spacing (at least 1.5x) to improve readability for users with dyslexia or low vision.
• Content width — Text content is constrained to a comfortable reading width (approximately 65-75 characters per line) to reduce eye strain and improve comprehension.

Reporting Accessibility Issues

If you encounter any accessibility barrier on this site, we want to know about it so we can fix it. Please contact us with:

• The URL of the page where you encountered the issue
• A description of the problem you experienced
• The assistive technology you were using, if applicable (screen reader name and version, browser, operating system)
• How the issue affected your ability to access the content

We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within 48 hours and resolve identified issues within two weeks. Critical issues that prevent access to safety or emergency information are prioritized for immediate resolution.

Mobile Accessibility

Our site is fully responsive and designed to work well on mobile devices:

• All content reflows correctly at any screen width without horizontal scrolling
• Touch targets (buttons, links) are sized at minimum 44x44 pixels for easy tapping
• Text remains readable without zooming on standard mobile screen sizes
• All functionality available on desktop is equally available on mobile devices

Known Limitations

We are aware of the following accessibility limitations and are actively working to address them:

• Some older blog posts may have inconsistent heading hierarchy, which we are correcting as part of our ongoing content review cycle
• The interactive map feature may have limited screen reader support; all map content is also available in text format on country pages
• Some third-party embedded content may not meet our accessibility standards; we are working with providers to improve this

Ongoing Improvements

Accessibility is not a checkbox — it is an ongoing process. Our current improvement roadmap includes:

• Expanding automated accessibility testing coverage to all page templates
• Conducting formal accessibility audits with third-party specialists
• Increasing manual testing with a wider range of assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
• Improving the accessibility of interactive features (tools, quizzes, forum)
• Adding text alternatives for any future audio or video content
• Exploring options for content in additional languages to serve non-English-speaking users
• Working toward WCAG 2.2 compliance as new guidelines are adopted

We review and update this accessibility statement at least annually, and whenever significant changes are made to the site's design or functionality.
