Nigeria — Transport & Getting Around

Lagos traffic ('go-slow') is among the worst on earth — build hours of buffer around anything scheduled. Use Uber or Bolt for all movement; street taxis and danfo minibuses are not for visitors, and okada motorcycle taxis are banned across much of Lagos anyway. The Blue Line light rail (Marina-Mile 2, opened 2023) and BRT bus corridors exist but door-to-door ride-hail is the safe default, especially after dark. Domestic flights (Air Peace, Ibom Air and others) link Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt — book morning departures because delays and cancellations compound through the day.

At Murtala Muhammed International (LOS), pre-arrange a verified hotel or trusted-operator pickup and confirm the driver's identity before leaving the terminal — the arrivals area is thick with hustlers and unofficial 'taxi' touts. Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe (ABV) is calmer.
