Austria — Transport & Getting Around
Vienna's U-Bahn, tram and S-Bahn network (Wiener Linien) is fast and cheap — single tickets around EUR 2.40, 24-hour pass EUR 8, 72-hour EUR 17.10. Uber and Bolt both operate in Vienna via licensed taxi drivers after the 2020 Gelegenheitsverkehrs-Gesetz reform that took effect September 2021; metered taxis (40100, 31300) are the alternative. The City Airport Train (CAT) runs Wien Schwechat to Wien-Mitte in 16 minutes for EUR 14, but the S7 S-Bahn covers the same route for roughly EUR 4.40.
Intercity travel runs on ÖBB Railjet (Vienna–Salzburg ~2h30, Vienna–Innsbruck ~4h); book on ÖBB or WESTbahn apps for advance discounts. Domestic flights are rare given the rail network — most travellers connect via VIE.
