United States — Legal Help
If detained, invoke the right to remain silent and request a lawyer immediately — do not consent to searches or answer questions without counsel. Ask officers to notify your consulate; under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (1963) they must permit contact. Embassies in DC and consulates in major cities can provide attorney lists but cannot pay fees or intervene in the case.
Age of consent is set by state and ranges 16–18. Prostitution is a state-level crime everywhere except licensed brothels in rural Nevada counties (per NRS 244.345); the federal SESTA-FOSTA Act 2018 criminalises online facilitation. Federal drug scheduling under the Controlled Substances Act 1970 remains strict even where states have legalised cannabis; possession on federal land or at airports is a federal offence.
Embassies & consular help
