Egypt — Transport & Getting Around

Cairo Metro has three lines, is cheap (EGP 8–15) and reaches Giza, but stops early (around midnight) and has women-only carriages. Uber and Careem both operate reliably in Cairo, Alexandria, Hurghada and Sharm, usually beating street taxis on price and hassle; InDrive is a cheaper haggling alternative. White metered taxis exist but drivers often refuse the meter — agree a price first.

EgyptAir dominates domestic flights (Cairo–Luxor/Aswan/Hurghada/Sharm from around USD 60 one-way). The Cairo–Alexandria–Luxor–Aswan train line runs Watania sleeper services. From Cairo Airport, official white airport taxis and Uber both work; avoid the arrivals-hall touts.
