La Paz's signature transit is Mi Teleférico, the world's largest urban cable-car network — roughly ten lines at about Bs 3 per line, doubling as the best sightseeing in the city. Micros and trufis (shared minivans) are dirt cheap but chaotic. For taxis, use radio taxis called by your hotel or ride-hail apps (Uber and InDrive operate in La Paz, Santa Cruz and Cochabamba); hailing unmarked street cabs at night carries a documented express-kidnapping risk.

Distances are brutal by road, so fly: Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) links La Paz, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba and Sucre, with La Paz-Santa Cruz about an hour. El Alto airport (LPB) sits at 4,061 m — among the world's highest — while Viru Viru (VVI) in Santa Cruz is the main international hub at comfortable lowland altitude.
