US citizens need a visa: around US 60 for a ten-year multiple-entry, obtainable at consulates in advance or on arrival at LPB and VVI — bring exact cash, a photo, and proof of accommodation and onward travel, since arrival processing is strict about paperwork. If landing at El Alto, remember you are stepping off the plane at over 4,000 m; take the first day slowly.
