Albania — Transport & Getting Around

No Uber or Bolt here: Tirana runs on cheap city buses (about ALL 40 a ride, cash to the conductor) and taxis ordered by phone or local apps — agree the fare or insist on the meter, as street-hailed cars quote tourist prices. Intercity travel is by furgon (shared minibus) and coach from Tirana's regional terminals; the rail network is effectively defunct. Roads to the southern riviera (Sarandë, Himarë) are slow mountain drives — budget half a day.

Tirana International Airport (TIA) is the only meaningful gateway, 17 km from the centre: the Rinas Express bus runs roughly hourly into the city for a few hundred lek, and airport taxis charge a de facto fixed EUR 20-25 into Tirana. Many visitors to the south instead fly to Corfu and cross to Sarandë by ferry in 30-70 minutes.
