Travel insurance is mandatory to obtain a Turkish residence permit and strongly advised for tourists — public hospitals treat emergencies but bill non-residents, and private care is not cheap. World Nomads, SafetyWing, and Allianz all cover Turkey; confirm the policy includes evacuation from eastern provinces if you go beyond the coast.

For private care in Istanbul, Acıbadem, Memorial, and the American Hospital (Amerikan Hastanesi) in Nişantaşı have English-speaking staff and same-day STI panels. Public dermatoveneroloji clinics at university hospitals handle STIs cheaply. HIV PEP is available at infectious-disease departments if started within 72 hours; PrEP is not on the public formulary and must be sourced privately.
