The Trinidad and Tobago dollar (TTD) trades at a managed rate of roughly 6.7-6.8 to the US dollar. The country has a chronic foreign-exchange shortage: cards (Visa/Mastercard) work in supermarkets, malls and better restaurants, but plenty of bars, taxis and small venues are cash-only, and US dollars in small notes are readily accepted and often preferred. ATMs at bank branches (Republic, RBC, Scotiabank, First Citizens) dispense TTD; avoid standalone machines at night — ATM robberies happen.

Tipping is 10-15% in restaurants where no service charge appears; route taxis and maxis are exact-fare, no tip. Change TTD back before departure — it is hard to offload abroad.
