Soi Cowboy / Patpong drink-overcharge
Some Bangkok and Pattaya bars present small drinks that turn into THB 5,000–20,000 bills, with bouncer-enforced collection. The "10 baht beer" sign refers to one specific draft only.
Mitigation: Confirm prices in writing before ordering anything; pay per-drink not per-tab; never enter a place without visible menu pricing.
Different person arrives than profile photo
Stock-photo or 5-year-old photos are common on lower-end Thailand directories.
Mitigation: Insist on a recent video verification before any deposit; reverse-image-search photos.
Underage entrapment
Reports of providers claiming to be 18 then later threatening exposure as underage. Thai law treats commercial sex with under-18s as a serious crime regardless of the client's knowledge.
Mitigation: See ID before any contact; refuse if anything feels off; the floor is 18.
Drink spiking on Walking Street and Soi 6
Reports of clients waking up missing wallets, watches, and phones after accepting drinks from beer-bar girls. Spiked with sleeping pills (lorazepam) more than rohypnol.
Mitigation: Drink only sealed bottles you opened yourself; never leave a drink unattended; eat first.
Airport taxi "Grand Palace closed" detour
Driver claims your destination is closed and offers to take you to a "better" tailor, gem shop, or massage parlour where they earn commission. Often the driver and shop are working together; the gem-store version can cost thousands of dollars.
Mitigation: Use Bolt, Grab, or the official airport taxi queue. Refuse any unsolicited rerouting.
Tuk-tuk meter scams
Tuk-tuks have no meter; quoted prices for short rides are often 5x what a metered taxi would cost.
Mitigation: Use the Bolt or Grab app; tuk-tuks are tourist-experience-only and overpriced for transport.
