Tanzania — Visa & Airports

Most Western passports qualify for an eVisa or visa on arrival at US$50 single entry; US citizens are the exception and must buy a US 00 multiple-entry visa. Apply through the official immigration eVisa portal in advance to skip the arrival queue. Zanzibar, though part of Tanzania, has added its own entry requirement: since October 2024 foreign visitors must hold the mandatory local inbound insurance policy (about US$44), bought online or on arrival.

Julius Nyerere International (DAR) is the main gateway, about 12 km from the Dar city centre — use Bolt/Uber or a hotel transfer rather than curbside touts. Kilimanjaro (JRO) serves Arusha and the northern safari circuit; Abeid Amani Karume (ZNZ) serves Zanzibar.
