Long-stay-oriented insurers and the big annual travel policies both cover Tanzania; check exclusions for motorbike taxis, which are a leading cause of visitor injury.

Adult HIV prevalence is around 4-5%, higher in some regions — consistent condom use is the baseline. Private hospitals in Dar es Salaam (Masaki/Oyster Bay area) offer confidential STI testing and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), which must be started within 72 hours; quality drops sharply outside the big cities, so deal with exposure concerns before heading up-country.
