Sweden — Currency & Money

Swedish krona (SEK, "kr"). Sweden is effectively cashless — many shops, cafés and buses refuse cash outright, and cards or contactless (Apple/Google Pay) are expected everywhere. Swish, the dominant local payment app, is tied to a Swedish personal number and generally unavailable to visitors. ATMs are branded Bankomat; withdrawals usually carry no local fee, but your home bank may charge 1–3%.

Tipping is not expected: service is included in restaurant prices. Rounding up or leaving 5–10% for exceptional table service is the norm; taxi and hotel tipping are uncommon. Carry a small cash reserve for older kiosks or rural buses, but budget for card-first.
