Serbia is outside the EHIC system, though UK passport holders retain limited cover for urgent treatment under a reciprocal healthcare agreement inherited from the Yugoslav era — do not rely on it. Buy full travel insurance: serious cases go to private hospitals in Belgrade or get evacuated, and state emergency care is competent but bare-bones outside the capital.

Free, anonymous HIV testing runs through the public-health institutes' counselling centres (savetovališta) in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš, and Belgrade's many private laboratories do fast, cheap STI panels with no referral. PEP is available through Belgrade's infectious-disease clinics within 72 hours; outside the capital access is unreliable.
