Senegal — Transport & Getting Around
Dakar taxis are unmetered — negotiate before getting in; short city hops typically run XOF 1,000-2,500. Yango and Heetch ride-hail apps operate in Dakar and remove the haggling. Dem Dikk city buses are cheap and orderly; the old car rapides minibuses are being phased out. The TER regional express train links central Dakar with Diamniadio in about 35 minutes and is the backbone of the airport corridor.
Blaise Diagne airport sits roughly 50 km from central Dakar — budget an hour-plus by road and XOF 15,000-25,000 for a taxi, or combine TER and a short transfer. Air Senegal flies domestically to Cap Skirring and Ziguinchor; the Dar-to-Casamance alternative is the Dakar-Ziguinchor ferry, an overnight sailing that beats the long road route through or around The Gambia.
