Russia — Visa & Airports

Russia requires a visa for US, UK, Canadian, Australian and all EU passport holders. The e-visa scheme relaunched in 2023 (up to 16 days, single entry) but excludes several unfriendly-list nationalities at various points — check the MFA site before booking. Since 2022 there are no direct flights from the US, UK, EU or Canada; travellers route via Istanbul, Dubai, Belgrade or Yerevan. Registration with local authorities within 7 working days of arrival is still required, usually handled by hotels.

Main gateways: Moscow Sheremetyevo (SVO), Domodedovo (DME), Vnukovo (VKO); St Petersburg Pulkovo (LED); Kazan (KZN); Sochi (AER). Foreign cards do not work airside — bring cash for SIM cards, taxis and food.
