Portugal — Visa & Airports
Portugal is in the Schengen Area. US, UK, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and Irish passport holders enter visa-free for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period; the EU's ETIAS pre-authorisation (EUR 20, valid 3 years) applies to non-EU visa-exempt nationals as it rolls in. Passports must be valid at least three months beyond departure and issued within the previous ten years. Longer stays require a residence visa applied for at a Portuguese consulate before travel.
Main gateways are Lisbon Humberto Delgado (LIS), Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro (OPO) and Faro (FAO). LIS is the TAP Air Portugal hub with direct long-haul routes from North and South America; OPO handles heavy European low-cost traffic; FAO is seasonal-heavy for Algarve holidaymakers.
