Poland — Legal Help

If detained, you have the right to notify your embassy and to a lawyer; police must inform you of charges within 48 hours and a court within 72. Warsaw hosts most Western embassies (US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France). Age of consent is 15 under Article 200 of the Penal Code (1997); the minimum age to engage in sex work is 18. Selling sex is legal and unregulated, but organising prostitution, pimping, running a brothel and profiting from another's prostitution are all criminal under Articles 203–204.

Drug laws are strict: the 2005 Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction criminalises possession of any amount, though Article 62a allows prosecutors to drop cases involving small personal-use quantities. Cannabis is not decriminalised. Public drunkenness can result in a sobering-station stay (PLN 300+).

Embassies & consular help

If you are detained, ask police to notify your embassy — they can provide a lawyer list and consular visits, but cannot pay fees or intervene in the case.
