Peru — Transport & Getting Around

Lima has the Metropolitano bus rapid transit and Metro Line 1, with the first stretch of Line 2 now running, but the network is thin for a city of ten million. Street taxis are unmetered and unregulated — use Uber, Cabify or InDrive and keep everything in-app, especially at night. Intercity, Cruz del Sur and the other premium bus lines are safe and comfortable; avoid the cheapest carriers on mountain routes.

Jorge Chávez International (LIM) in Callao opened its new terminal in June 2025; the airport district is rough, so pre-book a transfer or use the authorised taxi desks and app pickup zones — 40-60 minutes to Miraflores depending on traffic. Domestic flights on LATAM Perú, Sky and JetSMART are cheap booked ahead; Lima-Cusco is about 80 minutes.
