Peru — Insurance

Standard policies cover Peru, but read the altitude clause if heading to Cusco (3,400 m) or the highlands — some insurers cap cover above certain elevations or require a trekking add-on, and altitude sickness is the most common tourist medical event. Medical care in Lima's private clinics (Miraflores/San Isidro) is good; quality falls off quickly in smaller cities.

Private clinics offer discreet STI panels and PEP (within 72 hours); the public health system provides free HIV testing. If a drink-spiking incident is suspected, seek testing and medical review immediately and file a POLTUR report — insurers usually require the police report for theft claims.
