The guaraní (PYG) trades around 7,300-7,500 to the US dollar, so prices carry a lot of zeros (PYG 50,000 is about US$7). Paraguay is one of South America's cheapest countries and firmly cash-based outside Asunción's malls and better venues; carry cash for everything beyond the capital's hotel zone. Casas de cambio in Asunción and Ciudad del Este change USD, EUR and BRL at fair rates. ATM withdrawal limits are low and fees stack up — changing cash is usually better. Tipping around 10% in restaurants is appreciated, not enforced.
