Panama — Currency & Money
Panama uses the US dollar (locally called the balboa — only the coins differ), which removes exchange hassle entirely. Cards are accepted in malls, hotels, and chain restaurants, but nightlife, taxis, and small bars run on cash; carry small bills, since USD 50 and 100 notes are often refused. ATMs are everywhere with a typical USD 5 local fee per withdrawal. Tipping is 10% in restaurants (check whether it is already on the bill); taxis are not tipped.
