Nigeria — Insurance
Comprehensive cover with medical evacuation is essential, and read the territorial exclusions: many policies void cover in states under do-not-travel advisories (the northeast, parts of the Niger Delta and Middle Belt), while Lagos and Abuja are generally insurable. Some insurers exclude Nigeria altogether — confirm in writing before travel. Private hospitals in Victoria Island, Ikoyi and Abuja provide the reliable urgent care, paid upfront.
Take malaria prophylaxis — falciparum malaria is the statistically dominant health threat to visitors. HIV prevalence is significant and concentrated in sex-work networks: PEP is available at larger private hospitals in Lagos and Abuja, but pharmacy counterfeiting is a known problem in Nigeria, so carry your own condoms and any regular medication in original packaging rather than buying locally.
