Nepal — Visa & Airports
Most Western passports get a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International (KTM): USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, USD 125 for 90 days, payable in cash (USD preferred). Kiosks handle the form; queues after big arrivals are long, so filling the online pre-arrival form saves time. Extensions are done at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
KTM is the only airport with meaningful international traffic — the new Pokhara and Bhairahawa international airports opened in 2023 but host few foreign flights. The airport is small, chaotic at peak, and about 20–40 minutes from Thamel depending on traffic.
