Nepal — Insurance

If you plan any trekking, buy a policy that explicitly covers hiking at altitude (many standard policies stop at 3,000–4,000 m) and helicopter evacuation, which is the only ambulance in the mountains and runs to thousands of dollars uninsured. Kathmandu has established travel-medicine clinics in the Thamel/Lazimpat area accustomed to foreigners; outside the capital, care is rudimentary.

STI testing is available at private labs and clinics in Kathmandu — fast and inexpensive — but PEP availability is limited and essentially Kathmandu-only, so act quickly within the 72-hour window. Carry proof of insurance; hospitals ask for payment or a guarantee upfront.
