The Moroccan Dirham (MAD) is a closed currency — you cannot legally import or export more than MAD 2,000 and it is hard to buy outside the country. Exchange on arrival at the airport or in-town bureaux; keep receipts to reconvert leftover dirhams on departure. Cash dominates in medinas, taxis and small restaurants; cards work at hotels, chain supermarkets and mid-range restaurants in Casablanca, Marrakech and Rabat.

ATMs (Attijariwafa, BMCE, Banque Populaire) are widespread and typically charge MAD 20–30 per withdrawal on top of your home bank's fee. Tipping is expected: 10% in restaurants, MAD 5–20 for porters and petits taxis, MAD 100–200/day for private drivers or guides.
