Standard travel insurance is strongly advised: private care is expensive and public A&E waits are long. UK visitors can use a GHIC card for necessary treatment; EU/EEA visitors use the EHIC. Non-Europeans pay upfront and claim back. GPs charge roughly EUR 60–75 for a walk-in consultation.

Free, confidential STI testing is available through the HSE's public sexual-health clinics — the GUIDE Clinic at St James's Hospital in Dublin is the largest, with similar services at Cork University Hospital and University Hospital Galway. SH:24 offers free postal test kits for residents. PrEP is free through public clinics for eligible patients; emergency PEP is available at hospital A&E within 72 hours of exposure.
