Guatemala — Insurance
Carry travel medical insurance and confirm it covers crime-related injury, since robbery is the realistic hazard; for anything serious use the private hospitals clustered around Zonas 9 and 10 in the capital, which are good and expect payment or a guarantee upfront. Public hospitals are overwhelmed. Dengue is present in the lowlands (Flores, Tikal, the Pacific coast) — bring repellent.
Free HIV testing is available through Ministry of Health centres, and private laboratories in Guatemala City and Antigua run same-day STI panels cheaply; pharmacies sell condoms everywhere. PROATUR (1500) can point you to an appropriate clinic in an emergency.
