Sex work is illegal in Ghana — the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29) criminalises soliciting and brothel-keeping — and while enforcement is sporadic, police sweeps and extortion of both workers and clients occur, so the legal risk is real rather than theoretical. Nightlife itself is vibrant and legal: Accra — Osu (the Oxford Street strip) is the classic bar-and-club corridor; East Legon and Labone/Airport Residential hold the newer upscale lounges; the La (Labadi) beachfront hotels host weekend parties. Freelance activity concentrates around late-night venues in these districts. Kumasi — a smaller scene around the Ahodwo area.

Parliament passed the sweeping Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill in February 2024; whatever its final legal status after court challenges, the climate for LGBT visitors is hostile, same-sex acts were already criminalised under Act 29, and dating-app entrapment robberies (locally called kito) are documented — meet only in public places if at all.
