Ghana — Legal Help
If detained, request consular notification at once; your embassy can provide lawyer lists and check on your welfare but cannot secure release. A point worth knowing: police enquiry bail in Ghana is free by law — demands for payment to grant bail are illegal, though they happen; ask for the demand in writing and involve a lawyer immediately. Do not sign statements without counsel present.
The age of consent is 16 (Act 29), but since all commercial sex is illegal there is no lawful transaction at any age, and offences involving under-18s carry heavy penalties. Ghana's courts move slowly; avoiding arrest matters far more than winning afterwards.
Embassies & consular help
If you are detained, ask police to notify your embassy — they can provide a lawyer list and consular visits, but cannot pay fees or intervene in the case.
