Ghana — Currency & Money
The Ghanaian cedi (GHS) depreciates chronically, so hotels and tour operators often quote in US dollars while street prices run in cedis — carry both. Cash and MTN Mobile Money dominate everyday payments; card acceptance is patchy outside upscale Accra venues. ATMs work with foreign cards in the cities but per-transaction limits are low, so plan multiple withdrawals or bring dollars to change at forex bureaux (better rates than banks).
Tipping around 10% is standard at better restaurants and appreciated elsewhere; small dashes (tips) smooth many interactions but are never legally required — do not confuse them with demands from officials, which you should politely decline.
