Police emergency is 917. Suva hosts most diplomatic missions (US, UK, Australian and NZ high commissions/embassies), which is convenient by Pacific standards — consular staff visit detainees, provide lawyer lists and notify family, but cannot bail you out. If arrested, ask for a lawyer before answering questions; the private bar is small and Suva-centred, and court processes are slow.

The Crimes Act 2009 governs: commercial-sex offences under sections 230–233, age of consent 16, and any commercial sexual contact with a person under 18 prosecuted as aggravated child-sex offending. Same-sex activity has been legal since the 2010 decriminalization, though social attitudes outside resorts and Suva remain conservative. Drug offences, including cannabis, are prosecuted vigorously.
