Dominican Republic — Currency & Money
The Dominican peso trades around RD$60 to the US dollar. Dollars are accepted throughout the tourist zones at mediocre rates — pesos go further, especially away from the resorts. ATMs cap withdrawals (commonly RD 0,000–20,000) and charge fees per pull; use machines inside banks or malls, as skimming is common. Cards are fine in hotels and chains but nightlife is cash. Restaurants add a legal 10% service charge plus 18% tax; an extra 10% in cash for the actual server is customary.
