Cyprus is in the EU but, as of mid-2026, not yet applying Schengen rules fully — its 90-days-in-180 visa-free allowance for US, UK, Canadian, Australian and NZ passports is counted separately from your Schengen total, which makes it a popular reset stop for long-stay travellers. Enter via Larnaca or Paphos: arriving in the north through Ercan airport is treated by the Republic as entry through an illegal port and can cause problems if you then cross south. Crossing the Green Line with a Western passport is otherwise routine in both directions.
