Curacao — Neighborhoods

Willemstad — mainstream nightlife splits between the restored Pietermaai district (cocktail bars, live music, the closest thing to a bar-crawl strip), Punda and Otrobanda around the Queen Emma pontoon bridge, and the Mambo Beach boulevard of beach clubs southeast of town, which runs latest. Curaçao is one of the few places in the region with a formally tolerated, regulated commercial-sex framework: for decades this centred on Campo Alegre (also branded Le Mirage), the large open-plot compound near the airport where registered foreign workers lived and worked under permit and mandatory health checks, operating since 1949. Campo went bankrupt and closed in 2020, was auctioned, and has since had an on-off revival under new ownership — verify its current operating status locally before assuming anything. Outside the regulated compound model, street solicitation and unlicensed brothels remain illegal, and a discreet independent scene advertises online; snèk bars (local drinking houses) in non-tourist barrios sometimes double as venues but are not tourist territory. Sanky-panky-style hustling exists at beach bars aimed at visitors.
