Curacao — Currency & Money

The currency is the Caribbean guilder (XCG), which replaced the Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG) at par on 31 March 2025, keeping the long-standing peg of 1.79 to the US dollar. Old ANG notes were withdrawn during the transition, so refuse any pushed as change. US dollars are accepted almost everywhere at a slightly unfavourable rounding; cards are accepted very widely, and contactless is normal in Willemstad and the beach clubs. ATMs (Banco di Caribe, MCB, RBC) let you choose guilders or USD at many machines.

Tipping: many restaurants add a 10-15% service charge; if not, 10% is standard. Taxi drivers get rounding-up rather than a percentage. Prices skew European — closer to Aruba than to the Spanish-speaking Caribbean.
