Costa Rica — Insurance

Travel insurance is no longer an entry requirement (the pandemic-era mandate was dropped in 2022), but buy a policy with medical evacuation — private care is good and priced accordingly. San José's large private hospitals (clustered in Escazú and the city centre) handle everything from ER care to discreet STI panels; private labs do same-day HIV/STI testing without appointments, and PEP is available through private emergency departments — it must start within 72 hours of exposure. Condoms are sold in every pharmacy and supermarket.
