Chile — Legal Help
Adult sex work is not criminalised in Chile: those aged 18+ may register on the Registro Sanitario administered by SEREMI de Salud and are required to attend periodic health checks. Third-party profit — pimping, trafficking and running brothels — is prosecuted under Articles 367 and 367 bis of the Penal Code. The general age of consent is 14 (close-in-age rules apply), but the minimum for any commercial sexual activity is 18.
Drug offences fall under Law 20.000 (2005): personal possession of small amounts is an administrative matter, but sale and cultivation carry multi-year sentences. If detained by Carabineros or PDI, request consular notification; embassies (US, UK, Canada, Australia in Santiago) can provide lawyer lists but cannot intervene in judicial process.
Embassies & consular help
If you are detained, ask police to notify your embassy — they can provide a lawyer list and consular visits, but cannot pay fees or intervene in the case.
