Chile — Currency & Money
The currency is the Chilean peso (CLP). Cards run on the Transbank/Redcompra network and are accepted almost everywhere in cities, including small shops and taxis with card readers; contactless is standard. ATMs on the Redbanc network levy a foreign-card fee typically in the CLP 6,000–8,000 range per withdrawal, disclosed on-screen before you confirm — Scotiabank and Santander tend to be at the lower end.
Cambios (currency exchanges) in Providencia and around Agustinas in the centre offer better rates than the airport. Restaurants add a "propina sugerida" of 10% to the bill; it is optional but almost always paid.
