Documented Patterns (3)
Express kidnapping
Held briefly while attacker takes you to ATMs to drain accounts. Most common in Zona Sul late-night.
Mitigation: Don't walk alone after midnight in Copacabana, Ipanema, or Lapa; use Uber 99 or a hotel concierge taxi.
"Boa Noite Cinderela" (Goodnight Cinderella) drug
A Brazilian variant of scopolamine spiking, common in Lapa nightlife. Targets foreign tourists.
Mitigation: Same rule as Colombia: never accept an opened drink; bottled beer with cap on only.
Termas "extras" creep
Initial rate at the door covers entry only; sessions are negotiated separately and prices can climb mid-session in less reputable termas.
Mitigation: Stick to established termas (Centaurus, Bahamas, Quatro por Quatro); negotiate full price before entering a room.
