Bolivia — Insurance
Altitude is the insurance issue: La Paz sits at 3,600-4,100 m and many policies cap coverage above certain elevations or require an add-on — verify before travel, and confirm medical evacuation cover, since serious cases are moved to lowland Santa Cruz or out of the country. Altitude sickness on arrival at El Alto is the most common visitor medical event; ascend nothing further for 48 hours.
Public CDVIR clinics in the departmental capitals provide free STI and HIV testing; private clinics in Santa Cruz and La Paz handle discreet testing and PEP (within 72 hours of exposure). Pharmacy quality is reasonable in the big cities; carry any personal medication with you, as supply gaps occur.
