Belgium — Insurance

Standard travel insurance is recommended; check that STI testing, treatment and hospital cover are included. UK travellers can use the GHIC for emergency public care under the reciprocal agreement, but private insurance still covers repatriation and gaps. US visitors need private cover — public hospitals bill full rates.

Free anonymous HIV and STI testing is available at the Elisa checkpoint in Brussels (Saint-Pierre Hospital) and Helpcenter/S-Clinic sites; the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp runs a specialist sexual health clinic. Emergency contraception is over-the-counter at any apotheek/pharmacie. PrEP is available on prescription through referral centres.
