Bahamas — Transport & Getting Around

Nassau has no rail and no Uber, Lyft or Bolt — ride-hailing is effectively locked out by the taxi union. Jitney buses (numbered minibuses, roughly .25-1.50 flat fare, cash) cover Nassau and Cable Beach until early evening; the #10 runs the downtown–Cable Beach corridor. Taxis work on government-published zone rates rather than meters — Lynden Pindling airport to Cable Beach runs about 8-22, to downtown Nassau about 7-32, to Paradise Island slightly more plus the bridge toll; fares quoted are usually for two passengers with a surcharge per extra rider. Agree the figure before getting in.

Water taxis shuttle between Woodes Rogers Wharf downtown and Paradise Island. For the Out Islands, Bahamasair and Western Air fly domestic hops from Nassau (Freeport, Exuma, Eleuthera, Abaco), and Bahamas Ferries runs fast catamarans to several islands. Book domestic flights early in high season (December-April); schedules thin out midweek.
