Comprehensive travel insurance with high medical limits and medical evacuation cover is strongly advised — serious trauma and cardiac cases are routinely airlifted to Florida, and an uninsured medevac runs into five figures. Nassau has one major public hospital (Princess Margaret) and private hospital care that expects payment or proof of insurance up front; the Out Islands have only small clinics, which is another argument for evacuation cover.

STI testing is available through private clinics and laboratories in Nassau on a walk-in, fee-paying basis; the public system also runs an HIV/AIDS programme with testing. Pharmacies are well stocked in Nassau, thin elsewhere. Bring condoms and any prescription medication (with paperwork) rather than relying on local supply outside the capital.
