Sex work is legal and regulated at Bundesland (state) level — Vienna's Wiener Prostitutionsgesetz 2011 and equivalents in other states require registration with police, weekly to fortnightly mandatory health checks, tax registration, and confine work to licensed premises or designated street zones. Minimum age for sex work is 18 nationwide. General age of consent is 14, with protective provisions where an older party is in a position of authority or the younger person is under 16 and unable to appreciate the act (§ 206–207b StGB).

Drugs fall under the Suchtmittelgesetz 1997 (SMG); personal-use possession is a criminal offence but small quantities are commonly diverted to health-based measures under § 35 SMG. If detained, request consular notification — your embassy can supply lawyer lists and welfare contact but will not pay legal fees or intervene in proceedings.
