PrEP Availability by Country
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is HIV-prevention medication that is up to 99% effective when taken consistently. Where it's free, where it's a co-pay, where it's only available privately, where it's pilot-only, and where it isn't available at all.
Travelling with PrEP
- If you're already on PrEP, bring a 30-day-plus supply with the pharmacy label or a prescription printout.
- Some destinations (notably the UAE) deport HIV-positive non-citizens and conduct mandatory testing for residency. PrEP itself is not HIV medication, but customs officers may not draw the distinction — keep a doctor's note.
- Long-acting injectable cabotegravir (CAB-LA) lasts ~2 months per dose; useful for travellers on the move.
