When (and when not) to call your embassy
- Will help with: arrest, hospitalisation, lost passport, death-of-traveller, emergency evacuation, victim-of-crime support.
- Won't help with: legal fees, getting you out of jail (only ensures fair treatment), bail, paying bills, intervening in private disputes.
- For sex-tourism legal trouble specifically: embassy will ensure consular access and check on welfare; will not vouch for your activities or argue your case. Hire a local lawyer.
